What happens when two family holidays coincide? Well, firstly, you only have to put up with your meshuga family only once. It also makes for some odd, but delicious-sounding Thanksgivukkah recipes. So, for the first time since 1888 (supposedly not to happen again for 70,000 years, although the math escapes me), both Thanksgiving AND Hanukkah fall on the same day. OY!
What happens when you take the best of a holiday with turkey, candied yams, stuffing, cranberry sauce and assorted pies… and a holiday where everything is deep fried? Absolute, incredible deliciousness, bubbela!
A gluten-free turkey sandwich, like that matters with deep fried latkes used instead of bread slices, the Thanksgivukkah Double Down is a classic leftover turkey sandwich on turkey schmaltz-fried sweet potato latkes. Also on the sandwich: cranberry applesauce and shaved brussels sprouts, dressed in warm schmaltz-cider vinegar dressing. With a side of gravy, for dunking.
